I’ve been a fan of the Lonely Planet guidebooks for years. I used a number of them living and journeying around Asia. In fact, I employed my earlier edition on Japan broad when I lived there in the 90s. Seeing they had new full color versions out, I wanted to check out “Discover Japan.” The book is written by multiple writers and is as informative as it is attractive. The full color pictures, maps, and lay out make a outstanding guidebook even better. I wish I’d have had the version when living there, and I’m glad I have it for my next visit. With that said, when you are living in a country, you see everything in color, so the guidebook is employed to get you around. Maybe you don’t need color in that situation. However, as I’m here in the States, contemplating my next visit and remembering the times I lived there, the color is awesome. This is exceptionally unfeigned as I look at pictures of places I do not forget visiting. The color helps fetch those memories alive again. Okay, sufficient with regards to the beautiful color pictures and format. The real reason to buy a Lonely Planet guidebook is to help you travel around and experience all you may while visiting another country. The Lonely Planet guides are great for this, and this new edition on Japan is no exception. The book is full of experiences you won’t want to miss, places to stay, places to shop, places to eat, and local specialties. There are tips on getting to and from places as well as getting around once you are there. The book holds a lot of “Highlights” lists and “The Best Of” lists as well as things you need to recognise such as critical statistics, places in a nutshell, and emergency numbers. The book also includes warning when it comes to sure things such as when it might be hot and humid, or when places may be too crowded. The book has galore color maps to aid you with getting around and finding places. One nice feature is the legend has sure things written in both English and Japanese. This way you may show the book to a local when asking for help. Not everything is in both languages, but a good deal of things are. There are likewise little tips and facts all around the text. Overall, I recognise how utile lonely planet guidebooks are. I’ve employed them a lot. This new color edition of Japan is a nicer, friendlier and modified version of the original.
